So what can we do to protect ourselves?
Cancer Research UK has
an excellent website on this subject. The message is very similar to
that coming from the US and Australia. Cancer Research UK sum up their
advice as:
- S pend time in the shade between 11-3
- M ake sure you never burn
- A nd cover up
- R emember to take extra care with children
- T hen use factor 15+ sunscreen
In addition they point out that everybody's skin is different which also means that your susceptibility to burning and cancer is different from your neighbours.
Obviously people with darker skin are less likely to burn than people with light skin. But did you know that how many freckles you have is an indication of whether you are likely to burn or that the number of moles on your skin is a good indication of how seriously you should take the risk of cancers?
Have a browse through these sites for further information and background detail.
